GTA 6 Story and leaked map showing huge Caribbean setting
Time to Read: 3 minuteAccording to a Rockstar insider, GTA 6 is reportedly set to feature multiple cities and even a Caribbean island if rumours are true and a map from the game has apparently leaked.
GTA 6 Map leaked and details
The upcoming GTA 6 will return the series to Vice City and feature a number of Caribbean islands.
According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, GTA 6 will be set in a fictional version of Miami, namely Vice City—the setting of earlier games in the series.
Apparently, Rockstar Games' plans for the game were originally much more ambitious. It was meant to feature four main characters and set across three cities and 'large swaths of North and South America'. However, Rockstar apparently scaled back the plans after some internal changes were made to change the firm's company culture.
Now, the game is due to be set in Miami and some surrounding areas. An image shared by a notable GTA rumours page is purported to show this map, which includes a huge coastal city as well as a nearby Caribbean island.
They added that Rockstar will add new cities to the map through DLC (downloadable content) packs after the game's initial launch.
While the image would certainly align with leaks about the game so far, it has not been confirmed as legitimate by Rockstar and its origins are unclear.
The supposed map leak follows the news that GTA 6 will feature a woman as one of the main playable protagonists for the first time in series history.
A Rockstar insider revealed to Bloomberg that the long-awaited sequel to GTA V will include a Latina woman as one of two main characters, in a story inspired by 'Bonnie and Clyde'.
There's also speculation that the game could be released as early as March 2023, with past form suggesting that Rockstar tends to release games around 18 months to two years after formally announcing development. The next GTA game was announced in February of this year.
The Inspiration behind GTA 6 story
GTA 6 could have a storyline based on one of the most infamous drug baronesses in US history, according to rumours.
Eagle-eyed GTA observers noted that in a 2013 interview, Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser said that a 2006 documentary about the Miami drug trade is 'potentially good source material for a Rockstar game about female criminals'.
The film follows the growth of the drugs trade in Miami throug the 1970s and 1980s, including the smuggling ring between Florida and south America.
It also explores the story of Griselda Blanco, aka the 'Black Widow', who was the matriarch of Pablo Escobar's cartel and is said to have played a key role in the drugs trade in Miami.
The story is said to have inspired Scarface and Miami Vice. If true, it would move the series to focus on criminals involved in the drugs trade, unlike GTA V which followed a group of bank robbers.
Last week it was confirmed that GTA 6 will feature the series' first playable female protagonist.
According to a Bloomberg report, the game will be set in the Miami-inspired 'Vice City' and will star a Latina woman as one of two playable characters.
Some GTA fans believe the character will be portrayed Puerto Rican voice actor Alexandra Echavarri, whose acting portfolio states she recently did voiceover work for an unnamed 'principal character' in a Rockstar game.
