Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced via video Tuesday that she will run for president in 2024, becoming the first Republican to officially challenge former President Donald Trump.
Although the media and followers of the also former United Nations ambassador expected the announcement to be made on Wednesday in South Carolina, Haley surprised by revealing the open secret through her social platform, where she called for "a new generation of leadership”.
“We must turn in that direction again. Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections,” Haley said. “ It is time for a new generation of leaders to rediscover fiscal responsibility , secure our border, and strengthen our country, our pride, and our purpose.”
Haley also said she was proud to come from an immigrant family and to live in the United States “I was the proud daughter of Indian immigrants. Not black, not white, I was different. But my mom always said that your job is not to focus on the differences, but on the similarities. And my parents reminded me and my siblings every day how blessed we were to live in America.”
The Republican also did not hesitate to issue a serious warning “everyone thinks that we can be harassed, kicked. You should know this about me, I don't tolerate bullies and when you hit them back, it hurts more if you're wearing heels.”
Get excited! Time for a new generation.
