Crime of 3 elderly people inside the house generates alert in Newton

The Nonantum neighborhood of Newton, Massachusetts, is on high alert after police say three elderly people died inside their home on Broadway Street. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said there is evidence of forced entry into the home and that the victims suffered stab wounds and blunt force trauma.

“We are asking people to stay vigilant,” Ryan said. “This is the night to close doors and windows, even if you don't normally.”

At 10:14 am Sunday, a person known to the victims called 911 to report that three people believed to be the elderly residents of the home were found dead. The person or persons responsible for the deaths have not been caught.

According to CBS News, Ryan also asked residents if they hear or see anything suspicious to call Newton police immediately. “Don't wait until morning to tell us that,” Ryan said.

Residents in the Nonantum and Newton Ville area are asked to review their home security video for any something unusual. There will probably be an increased police presence in the neighborhood until someone is caught.

The names of the three victims have not been released. Ryan said two of the victims were a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend.

According to the tight-knit community, the victims were deeply connected to the local church and their absence from Sunday mass concerned neighbors.

“These were churchgoers. The only reason they were found is because they weren't at church and someone came to see if they were okay, neighbor Robin Dickey said.”

A local priest brought comfort to the community Sunday as investigators worked to discover what happened inside Newton's home.
