A groom in Nebraska, identified as Toraze Davis, died of a heart attack an hour after his wedding ceremony began.
Toraze and Johnnie Mae Davis walked down the aisle Monday in front of their children, parents, family and friends, vowing to spend the rest of their lives together. Soon after, however, the groom collapsed to the ground, turning what was supposed to be a celebration of a lifetime into a loss.
The happiest day of their lives turned into a day of tragedy, Monica Miller, the bridesmaid of the bride who was at the wedding, told NBC News.
The friends are now trying to support the bride.
Jewel Roberson, a friend of the bride, told KETV in Omaha that Toraze Davis's heart stopped for the first time an hour after the ceremony began.
“ In one second. It happened in seconds. Widowed and married within 10 minutes,” Roberson told the station.
An online fundraiser to help with funeral expenses and the couple's children had raised more than $12,000 as of Friday night .
Toraze Davis's funeral will be on July 5, according to service information shared on the Good Shepherd Funeral Home website.
