A loud explosion blew up several vehicles and destroyed a main street in the business district of Johannesburg in South Africa. The first investigations point to a possible burst in the underground gas pipelines. It is presumed that the accident left one person dead and at least 48 injured.

One of the main shopping streets of Johannesburg, in the north of South Africa, experienced a scene taken from an action movie, when a large detonation surprised hundreds of people who were carrying out their daily activities, causing the ground to explode and cars to come out flying.

The images of the exact moment of the explosion were recorded by security cameras, it is presumed that the fatal incident left one person dead and at least 48 injured.

On the other hand, the spokesman for the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, Robert Mulaudzi, announced the recovery of the body of the deceased person in the surroundings of the area where the accident occurred.

β€œWe recovered the body of a man in the surroundings of the area where the accident occurred. It appears that the person was trapped under the rubble of a taxi.” he pointed.

Faced with this tragedy, the head of the Gauteng province, Panyaza Lesufi, joined the investigations, ensuring that all private and public companies with infrastructure in the city have been called to review their systems to trace the origin of the incident.

These events occurred two weeks after 17 people, including three children, were killed on July 5 by a gas leak that occurred in the informal settlement of Angelo, near the city of Boksburg, about thirty kilometers east of Johannesburg.
