Canelo Alvarez complied in Akron and prevailed as planned against the British John Ryder but nevertheless it was not enough to knock out his rival at home

Canelo Álvarez beat John Ryder by unanimous decision at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, in a fight that meant his return to fight in his country after 12 years. However, the man from Guadalajara was unable to end the fight with a long-awaited knockout against a boxer who is not considered among the elite.

Although he dominated the fight for most of the 12 rounds, the Mexican could not give the final blow and although he managed to knock Ryder down once, the Briton's strength and gallantry kept him on his feet until the end.

The unanimous decision in favor of Canelo was with ballots from the judges of 118-109, 120-107 and 118-109. Two judges watched Ryder win round 10. Saúl Álvarez, who defended all of the super middleweight world titles, improved to 59-2-2, while his opponent stands at 32-6.

The Akron Stadium dressed up for the return of Saúl Álvarez to fight on Mexican soil and his welcome was given by his own mother , in a video that made all the audience present stand up from their seats, longing to see their idol again, who also entered the majestic venue to the rhythm of a modern version of “Eye of The Tiger”.

In the ninth, Ryder was reeling from Canelo's attacks, but nevertheless responded and asked for more from the opponent. The Brit gave a true display of courage and will in the ring.
