$250 dollar stimulus check will be sent in New Jersey

Starting July 1, the more than 400 beneficiaries of the Newark Movement for Economic Equity program in the state of New Jersey will receive payments of up to $250 dollars, which are intended for low-income families.

According to Kevin Callaghan, press secretary to the mayor of Newark with this stimulus check “we have helped people avoid eviction, we have supported residents to recover after being hospitalized with COVID.

Depending on the entity, some recipients receive payments less than the listed amount, while others may exceed the stated amount. For that reason, people with smaller amounts are paid twice a month, in this case, 1 and 15. On the other hand, recipients who have their payments twice a year, are sent in the months of May and October.

In this sense, Callaghan explained that 9% of the beneficiaries use their payments for transportation, 10% for public services and housing payments, 26% for groceries, and 41% for food and basic necessities.

The program is developing a study, which is why Callaghan said “Formal results will be published by our research partner, the University of Pennsylvania Guaranteed Income Research Center in 2024. Participants complete detailed surveys twice a year that assess your physical health, mental health, financial security, housing stability, and more,” he said.

It should be noted that the applicants were randomly selected and had to meet certain requirements such as being over 18 years of age and having an income of less than 200% established in the entity. Interested persons can consult more information on the Program web page.
