Several individuals got out of a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people, until now the line of investigation establishes that they were chasing someone and could see him in the crowd

At least nine people were injured in Philadelphia, four seriously, after multiple shooters began firing into a crowd Saturday night, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

The shooting occurred around 10:45 pm in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia when multiple individuals got out of a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people.

The shooters, who police say may be three or four, fled the scene in the same car. There are at least 40 pieces of ballistic evidence at the scene, NBC News reported.

No weapons were recovered and no arrests were made, according to police.

The nine victims, all adults between the ages of 23 and 40, were taken to an area hospital, police said.

The motive was unknown as of Sunday, but police say it appears the shooters saw someone they were chasing and began shooting.

Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said at a briefing after the shooting Saturday that there is a strong police force in the area.

“We have some cheeky people who don't care how many cops are here or how many people are here,” he said.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney also commented on the brazen nature of the shooting.

“I am horrified and devastated by this despicable and brazen act of gun violence,” he tweeted.

“My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of those injured, and to everyone affected by this tragedy,” he continued.

The Philadelphia Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
