More than 230 people were killed and some 900 injured when three trains collided in India on Friday, in one of the worst train accidents in the country's recent history.
At least 233 Two passenger trains and a freight train collided in the city of Balasore in the eastern state of Odisha, according to Chief State Secretary Pradeep Jena.

A passenger train is believed to have derailed before being struck by another on the adjacent track late Friday.
Indian Railways said the two service trains involved were the Coromandel Express and the Howrah Superfast Express.
More than 200 ambulances were dispatched to the scene in Balasore district, it says Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena, who previously reported that more than 100 additional doctors had been mobilised.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was distracted over the incident and his thoughts were with the bereaved families.
“Rescue operations are being carried out at the scene of the accident and all the possible assistance to those affected”.

A day of mourning has been announced in the state of Odisha.
India's extensive rail network suffers from outdated infrastructure and poor maintenance, factors that are often responsible for accidents.
