During a news conference, Sgt. Brent Fekety, public information officer for the Burbank Police Department, said officers received a transfer call from the California Highway Patrol, informing them that an armed individual was sitting inside. from a parked car who told them he was going to start shooting people.

“He went as far as telling the operator what type of vehicle he was in, the color of the vehicle, and the exact location in the parking lot,” Fekety said.

Deputies arrived on scene and had a brief verbal exchange with the suspect that led to “aggressive actions” by the suspect, Fekety said, noting that he had taken a "shooting stance"; towards the officers moments before they opened fire.

It has not been reported whether the suspect actually fired at the officers. The suspect, who remained unidentified, was transported to Holy Cross Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead due to injuries from at least one gunshot wound.
