Local 770 said La Opinion had endorsed the candidate and that former candidate Rose Grigoryan endorsed her; none was true.

With just days to go until the San Fernando Valley 6th Councilmember election for the Los Angeles Council, Marisa Alcaraz, the second-place candidate in the primary, finds herself in a bind facing her opponent, Imelda Padilla for announcing false endorsements.

His campaign has distributed mail-in campaign collateral with false endorsement information, but there are also fears that the fraud, perjury and conflict of interest charges against his boss, Councilor Curren Price will affect him.

Marisa is the deputy chief of Councilor Price's office. And Price himself gave her electoral endorsement.

“The accusations against Curren are a political death sentence against Marisa because the councilman is her political godfather. He was the one who encouraged her to run for the Council, but since the crimes of which Councilman Price is accused are very serious, I am afraid that Marisa will no longer be able to be elected”, said Juan Jose Gutierrez, director of the Coalition for Full Rights of Immigrants.

“Now the saying 'Tell me who you're with, and I'll tell you who you are' applies very well to Marisa. It's a shame, but it's the reality.”

The election to elect the new councilor for District 6, who will replace Nury Martínez, will be held on June 27. Imelda Padilla and Marisa Salazar are vying for the seat on the Council.

The False EndorsementsOn Saturday, June 10, Rose Grigoryan, a former candidate for the Los Angeles 6th District, clarified on social media that she did not authorize her name and portrait will be used in a campaign flyer to be distributed by his ex-opponent Marisa Alcaraz.

He also condemned that this misinformation was intended to confuse voters. And since May 6, Grigoryan gave his support to Imelda Padilla to be the next councilor for district 6.

Remember that during the primary, Grigoryan got 15% of the vote, after a count that took weeks after the close race for second place.

Grigoryian said she was incredibly disappointed that Marisa Alcaraz's campaign intentionally misleads voters with mail-in material using her photo without their permission.“The mail-in election advertising promotes Armenian endorsements of Alcaraz and falsely uses my photo also implying that the I'm supporting.”

She stressed that she does not support Alcaraz. “I have publicly endorsed Imelda Padilla and have wholeheartedly supported her because she is the best candidate to represent the 6th Council District. He has shown integrity and transparency throughout the campaign.”

He said if Alcaraz lies and misleads voters on the campaign trail, he can't imagine what he would be willing to do as a city councilman.

“We deserve better , an honest leader like Imelda Padilla to represent us.”

Another incident This is not the first time the candidate or her allies have come under fire for employing deceptive tactics in their effort to secure votes in the District 6 special election.

In March In the past, Local 770 mailed an election campaign to thousands of primarily Spanish-speaking voters, claiming that Alcaraz had secured the support of La Opinion, when La Opinión had not made a decision on who it would back.

It should be clarified that the electoral advertising with the false support of La Opinion was paid for by Local 770 of the Political Action Committee of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and not by the campaign.

But in the end, La Opinion published an editorial clarifying the situation and its executive editor, Armando Varela, publicly asked Local 770 to deny the false support.

The action of publishing this falsehood has damaged the name of The Opinion. Those in charge of this political action committee should take responsibility and spread a denial that reaches District 6 voters and local media,” the published editorial read.

Imelda Padilla, a candidate for the same district, said it is deeply troubling and disappointing that her opponent is lying to voters by saying she received Rose Grigoryan's endorsement.“Alcaraz's actions do not reflect any respect for the communities that I have worked so hard to advocate for over the last 20 years.”

Noting that he will continue to campaign to earn the trust and support of District 6 voters, he encouraged voters to report any activity questionable election report to the Los Angeles Ethics Commission at .

La Opinion is awaiting a comment from Jose Ugarte, head of Marisa Alcaraz's campaign and who is also part of Councilor Curren Price's work team.

About the accusations against the Councilwoman Price, Padilla said she is extremely disappointed that he has failed his constituencies in the 9th Ward and the people of Los Angeles, eroding public trust in local government.

“We need a start New at City Hall. The people of Los Angeles deserve representatives who will fight for them and that starts with eradicating the culture of always that allows so much corruption” and said he supported the Council President's motion to suspend Price, but hoped Councilman Price would do the right thing and will resign.
