Alonso Arambula Pina, alias 'El TrEbol', linked to the Arellano Felix Cartel, would have been the target of the massacre recorded during a rally in Baja California.

The violence in Mexico once again left a scene that monopolized national and international media, as at least 10 people lost their lives after an armed confrontation between alleged members of organized crime.

However, the authorities revealed that behind the deadly attack was the death of 35-year-old Alonso Arambula Piña, alias “El Trebol”, related to the Arellano Felix Cartel, who was the main target of this offensive.

The State Attorney General in Baja California, Ricardo Iván Carpio, confirmed that the shooting during the event was a confrontation between alleged organized crime groups.

“According to the information collected, the first analyzes establish that the attack was repelled by those who were initially attacked,” the official explained.

“The investigations will be aimed at establishing the origin and motive of the confrontation between alleged organized crime groups,” added the prosecutor.

Local government sources indicated that the attack was carried out by members of the Arellano Felix Cartel, to which one of those killed would belong, and the Sinaloa Cartel.

Among the victims was “El Trebol”, who was being investigated for the alleged transfer of drugs to the United States. Next to his body was found that of his partner, identified as Mariana Soto, and that of the delegate from San Antonio de Las Minas, Jose Eduardo Orozco Gil.

“We can determine that this incident is due to a confrontation between presumed criminals who shot at each other at the event,” explained Ivan Carpio.

Baja California ranks as the third national state with the most murders during the administration of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, with 12,800 murders, and where the drug war of the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel (CJNG) against the Sinaloa Cartel has increased, displacing the Arellano Felix Cartel, historically the main criminal group in the region.
