A new episode of negligence occurred in Mexico, where a woman would undergo an osteotomy to alleviate her arthritis, but the doctors operated on the healthy leg, so he will not be able to walk for several months.

A woman from the state of San Luis Potosí, in northern Mexico, was admitted to the ISSSTE Hospital in Ciudad Valles, where she would undergo an osteotomy, which is a surgical procedure, performed under general anesthesia, that repairs damaged joints by cutting and reshaping bone.

Despite being clear about the procedure, the doctors made a mistake on the leg where the osteotomy would be performed, instead of doing it on the left, they operated on the right, causing irreparable damage.

Nowthe relatives presented an alleged medical negligence, since the woman will not be able to walk for several months, in addition to the fact that her original arthritis problem continues to affect her left leg.

According to statements in local media, Mirna Martinez, daughter of the victim, assured that “My anger is that I see my mother writhing in pain and it is pain in vain because she could walk on her own two feet, she She brings her walker, she was walking.”

At the time, relatives of the patient filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission and the State Attorney General's Office, so that in the next few days some position could be given official of the case.

This case comes to light a month after negligence was verified in another ISSSTE hospital, in Mexico City, where a man underwent surgery in 2018, however, the doctor anesthesiologist did not confirm the hours of fasting of the patient, which caused a pulmonary aspiration with food remains.

In the days following the surgical intervention, the victim presented pulmonary complications, respiratory distress, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, and rales. The clinical picture was aggravated by septic shock, pulmonary sepsis, pneumonia, respiratory and cardiac failure, in addition to severe kidney damage, which was not promptly attended to by the medical personnel, resulting in the death of the patient due to multiple organ failure on April 9. December 2018.
