President Joe Biden gave an exclusive interview to Univision, and in the conversation with Enrique Acevedo at the White House, he also addressed his proposals for a second term of government and how his programs have benefited Latinos

President Joe Biden held on Tuesday in an interview with Noticias Univisión that his Republican opponent in the 2024 elections, Donald Trump, is the “main threat to freedom and democracy”, with a speech by & #8220;dictator” to whom Biden said we must pay attention.

Biden criticized again the derogatory way in which former President Trump speaks, particularly of Hispanics.

“Donald Trump speaks using phrases like let's eviscerate the Constitution. He is going to be a dictator from day one. The idea that he sat in the office, and I'll show you before you leave, from the Oval Office and watched for hours the attack on the Capitol and the destruction and the chaos and the people who died,” Biden recalled.

The president also referred to the fact that Trump has said that if he wins the elections, will release those who participated in the assault on the Capitol and They have been punished with prison sentences.

“Let's think about the things he says, how he talks about minorities,of Hispanics”, indicated Biden, who has previously criticized the way Trump speaks and has reaffirmed that the Republican should not win “for the good of the country.

During Biden's first interview with a Latino media during the election campaign, the president focused on attracting again the Hispanic vote that supported him in his 2020 victory over Trump, and highlighted the initiatives that his Administration has launched in education, health and housing, priority issues for this community and his commitment to continue seeking solutions to the immigration issue.

Biden, which has a campaign team for the Latino community, highlighted that $10,000 has been awarded to families to buy their first home or move due to interest rates; “millions” of new homes or rental assistance, among other initiatives.

“The country's interest in us doing this is overwhelming,”, said the president, who in his state of the union speech proposed tax credits for buyers of their first home.

In educational matters, he highlighted the $14,000 million dollars to university institutions that teach Hispanics, which he also did for African-American institutions, he highlighted.

“Every student who graduates from high school, goes to community college or university,"He has the same ability as white students but," he said, adding that "universities don't have these big funds."

Biden, has fought a long battle to regulate insulin prices, he highlighted with satisfaction that the high price of this indispensable medicine was put to an end and that this benefits Latinos .

“There is a greater propensity among Hispanics to suffer from diabetes and other things,”, he said, immediately highlighting that it was possible to reduce the cost of $400 dollars a month for the insulin for $35 dollars.

On immigration

Biden highlighted that “the first piece of legislation I introduced as president was related to the border. The first. I wanted to make sure everything from Dreamers had a path to citizenship, to providing enough border security personnel to manage the border in an orderly manner, allow legal immigration, and prevent illegal immigration.

The president recalled the difficult negotiation that took place for months in Congress to reach an agreement that would allow fund protection and border enforcement and maintaining immigration controls and how this deal did not advance in Congress because Trump warned Republican lawmakers that it could benefit Biden.

When asked if he has made a decision final decision on an executive order in terms of what he wants to do at the border, that includes the power to close the border, Biden said they are still examining whether he has the power to do so.

“I would have that power according to the legislation. When the border has more than five thousand people a day trying to cross it because you can't manage it, slow it down. "There's no guarantee I'll have all that power on my own without legislation," Biden explained.

About Mexico and its president

Biden praised the excellent relationship he has with the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and how this has facilitated bilateral collaboration on immigration matters.

“He seems like a direct person to me. He has never teased me. He knows what he wants. Keeps his word. "That's all I can ask for," he indicated when asked if he has a good relationship with López Obrador.

The Biden Administration has maintained a correct and cooperative relationship with López Obrador despite the differences and criticism from the Mexican president of some of the US policies on immigration or security.

In his interview, Biden also referred to López Obrador's proposal to contain irregular immigration that reaches the southern border of the United States. United States and which, according to the Mexican, must include an investment of $20,000 million dollars and the end of sanctions on Venezuela and Cuba.

“Before Obrador came up with that plan, "I had already started it years ago," he said.

In the president's opinion, irregular immigrants head to the United States because “they have no alternative.”.

“What we have done and what was working until they cut it (due to lack of funds from Congress) is provide the ability to create jobs in the countries they leave. People don't want to leave where they are. People want to know that they have an opportunity to make a living and they prefer to do it where they are, Biden said.

On Israel, President Joe Biden called it a “mistake” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach to the war in Gaza, renewing his criticism of the Israeli leader a week after the White House threatened to alter its support for Israel in the war against Hamas.
