The guard of the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA must go to court at the end of September to appear in a hearing for two misdemeanors after being arrested at the end of July by the Los Angeles Police for possession of a weapon.

After being arrested at a police checkpoint in July, the figure of the NBA with Los Angeles Clippers, Amir Coffey, would have been charged with a couple of misdemeanors in late August, almost a month after his arrest.

According to information from the chain TMZ Sports, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office filed two charges against the player. One for carrying a loaded firearm and another for concealment of a firearm.

Now, Coffey is due back in court later this month for a hearing. At the end of July, the Los Angeles Police stopped the NBA figure during a routine roadside check. According to the authorities, the bodyguard was arrested around 2:30 a.m. in the Hollywood neighborhood after a report of driving at high speeds.

Apparently, when the agents approached the car, they smelled marijuana, and after proceeding with the search they found the weapon loaded. “Police say Coffey admitted it was his, and was later arrested for misdemeanor possession of a firearm. They told us that another person at the scene was cited for marijuana,” reported TMZ.

According to the records, the forward entered prison three hours after the incident, around 5:05 a.m., although Four hours later, around 9:00 a.m., he was released on his own recognizance.

Now, the player must appear in court at a hearing scheduled for the end of August. Amir Coffey is 26 years old and has played for the Los Angeles Clippers since 2019. In these last four seasons, he has played 181 games. During his career in Los Angeles, he has averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

It is not the first time that an episode of this type affects the NBA. Last March, Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant.
