Boxing is one of the disciplines that Mexico brought to El Salvador with the most expectations for the Central American and Caribbean Games, however, despite adding medals, discipline was left to duty in the games.
Mexico arrived at the Central American and Caribbean Games with a representation of 13 boxers, the forecasts gave at least 10 medals as certain and they ended up getting a total of six in total.
Of the six metals achieved, four were bronze, one silver and just one gold medal, a figure that leaves Mexican boxing in debt, currently considered a power in any category.
Mexico's boxing medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games
Esmeralda Falcón considered one of the greatest promises of Mexican boxing and who came to defend his title, he could not and had to settle for the bronze medal after losing against the Colombian Angie Paola Valdes.
The boxer Marco Verde was the only Mexican who was able to hang the gold medal in the boxing of the Central American and Caribbean Games in the 71 kilogram category, after beating Colombian Jhonatan Arboleda.
However, Citlalli Ortiz was the only female to register her name in the Final and she did it in the 75 kilogram category after defeating the Cuban Yakelin Estornell. However, Ortiz was defeated in the final by her Panamanian rival, Atheyna Bylon.
With this performance, Mexico worsens its participation in the boxing of the Central Americans and the Caribbean since in the Barranquilla 2018 edition it obtained two gold medals, two of silver and five bronzes.
