The Dominican Pedro Martinez is probably the best Latin American pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball, now he works as a commentator of the sport that he is passionate about and has also given a radical change in his perspective regarding the media.
“Before, he was a bit square”, a person who sometimes did not want to be questioned beyond what the game was. “Now I have more respect for those who dedicated themselves to studying to be in this business,” admitted Martinez, who is also a Hall of Famer and who played 17 seasons in the Major Leagues wearing the uniform of five teams.
Pedro Martinez and his role as a commentator
Regarding his role as a commentator, Martinez expressed that now he has a unique opportunity to express his knowledge and his feelings as a human being about the sport that you love and the differences it may have with respect to your stage as a player.
“As a player I saw intense moments and a lot of pressure where I had to defend my job and the economic assets that I brought to my country”, he said.
“Now I have the opportunity to use words and lived experiences, being sensitive to the fact that there is no perfect human being, we can all fail and I try to bring that to the audience in the most sincere way possible”, he added.
He ensures that the level of responsibility that one now has with social networks is much more demanding and immediate. “The work a journalist does deserves a little more respect”, something he learned from watching the preparation of communicators from the inside.
