69 percent of parents believe their children should learn about 'stranger danger' before the age of five

It seems that the world has become more dangerous over the years or at least that's what some parents surveyed believe that today's world is not safe for children.

According to a survey of 2,000 mothers and fathers, it was revealed that parents believe that the 80s were the safest time to be a child, with 18% voting for that decade, compared to only 5%. who chose the 2020s.

Despite the 1980s being the safest, many parents turn to modern technology for help, with 57% providing their children with a phone so they stay in constant contact.

Fear of their children's interaction with strangers

In other questions in the same survey conducted by OnerPoll, nearly one in five parents say their child has been approached by a stranger at some time . Specifically, the survey reveals that in 18% of cases their children have told them that a stranger tried to talk to them.

Of those, 31% alerted the police about the incident, while 45% informed other authorities, such as their child's school. However, one in three (34%) believe that schools and other organizations do not have the training or resources to adequately manage their security concerns.

The study also reveals that 69% of parents believe that their children should learn about “stranger danger” before the age of five. Another 12% believe that young children should know about these dangers before the age of three.

Although 88 percent of those surveyed have had a conversation about the dangers of talking to strangers, 32 percent of parents fear scaring their child by talking about it. Nearly one in five parents (19%) avoid the topic because they feel she lacks the knowledge to adequately discuss stranger danger.
