A 4.8 magnitude tremor, according to an official report, surprised New York City and the metropolitan area, including regions of New Jersey.
On Long Island the movement was felt intensely, according to reports received by this newspaper.
So far no damage has been reported, in addition to the fact that USGS reports that the epicenter was Whitehouse Station, in New Jersey.

The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, reported that the tremor was felt in Manhattan and other areas of the city.
