Never before has this happened before 2015, when the number of people who felt absolute pride was less than 55 per cent. But in the last seven years this number has decreased.
Increased dissatisfaction with the country and society
According to analysts, the main reason for this decline is a feeling of pride in their country among the supporters of the Republican Party and the people who do not support any party. By the way, it is still the pro-Republican group in which this sentiment is found the highest. In 2019, 75 percent of pro-Republicans said they were extremely proud of their country. This time the number of people expressing such opinion in this group was only 58 percent.
Gallup has said in its statement that this survey was done from June 1 to 20. That was the period when there were incidents of firing in many places in America, in which dozens of people were killed. But till now the Supreme Court's decision canceling the legality of abortion had not come. It is understood that after that decision, discontent among a large number of Americans about their country and society has increased. Gallup said these are immediate reasons. But in reality the sense of pride in their country has been dwindling among Americans over the years.
Social polarization likely to increase
According to analysts, another latest decision of the Supreme Court is expected to increase discontent in the society. The court on Thursday limited the authority of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to issue orders to reduce carbon emissions. This has dealt a severe blow to President Joe Biden's agenda to stop climate change.
