At least three people died and five were injured in a shooting that took place during a concentration of motorcyclists in Red River, a small town in the state of New Mexico (USA), according to the latest data provided by the State Police.
Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun told local media the shooting was sparked by a clash between rival biker gangs and imposed a nighttime curfew.
Without elaborating on what happened. As of Saturday afternoon, New Mexico State Police, which had previously reported two dead and six injured, raised the death toll to three early Sunday and said five injured people are hospitalized.
Police have not reported any arrests so far.
New Mexico law enforcement said more officers have been sent to Red River to investigate the shooting and asked people to refrain from traveling to that town of about 500 inhabitants, although security is no longer threatened, according to a message posted on Twitter.
Eyewitnesses told the KOB 4 channel that after the shooting the police closed all the bars and restaurants on the main street of Red River, a city near Albuquerque, and numerous first aid and police vehicles began to arrive in the area.
One of the injured was taken by air to a hospital in Denver, in the neighboring state of Colorado.
The New Mexico hospitals where the injured are admitted have been equipped with increased security, without specifying the reasons, according to state police.
