A Miami operation led to 17 citations and ten arrests, including a 17-year-old, who were arrested on charges of illegal street racing and resisting authority.

The Miami-Dade Police arrested ten people, including a minor, who participated in a clandestine car race in this South Florida county (USA), local media reported this Sunday.

Dozens of agents, in coordination with officials from the National Security government office, carried out an operation against this event early Saturday morning, in which two firearms were seized and four cars were confiscated.

The intervention of the agents resulted in 17 summonses and ten arrests, including a 17-year-old boy, who were arrested on charges of illegal street racing and resisting authority, given that several of them tried to escape from the place of the facts when the agents arrived.

Miami-Dade Police said that upon their arrival in the area, which had been closed by the organizers of the race , several cars made the well-known β€œdonuts” (spins in which the car rotates 180 degrees on its own axis) and others were driving at high speed.

According to the US National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), clandestine car racing is a problem that spreads throughout the country and poses a serious risk to its participants .

The entity estimates that in the last decade alone, 800 people lost their lives in incidents related to these races. The states of California, with 188 deaths, and Texas, with 128, lead this ranking.

In terms of number of tickets linked to illegal car racing, the states of Wyoming, North Dakota and Wisconsin top the list.
