Experts believe that young people who want to access adult content can circumvent the law that requires them to present an ID with tools as basic as a VPN

A new Louisiana law that requires the presentation of an identity document to access adult content could be easy to violate, according to some experts.

According to Gizmodo, a site specializing in technology, young Internet savvy people have plenty of ways to bypass content filters and parental locks. Louisiana's latest attempt is likely to be no different.

This new restrictive law could be turned around by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), which is a service that helps maintain privacy online and prevents you from knowing exactly where a user is connecting from.

A VPN, according to the company Avast, establishes a secure and encrypted connection between your computer and the Internet and provides a private tunnel for your data and communications while using public networks.

The controversial law

House Bill 142 went into effect in that state in the early hours of this year, requiring all adult sites to confirm the age of visitors before allowing them to access content, or they will face the possibility of legal consequences.

Many sites already checked the age of the users, but they did it in a very simple way, which blindly trusted the users, since they limited themselves to asking them to check the β€œ18+” box or to enter their year of birth.

But now everything will be much more complicated, since in Louisiana residents will be required to present a digitized identification card based on the government identification document, or to show the government-issued card itself, in order to access content for mature public.

The legislation was signed in June last year, as lawmakers believed the issue was β€œcreating a public health crisis and exerting a corrosive influence on minors.”
