Indiana State Police Sgt. John Davis said at a news conference that when officers arrived at the hospital there was a shooting altercation at the hospital between the officers and a suspect identified as 34-year-old Sean Hubert.

Authorities say a veteran Indiana police sergeant and a suspect died Monday during a shooting at a Tell City hospital.

Sergeant Heather Glenn and other officers responded at 12:50 am to a disturbance at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, located near the Indiana-Kentucky border.

Indiana State Police Sgt. John Davis told a news conference that when officers arrived at the hospital there was a shooting altercation at the hospital between the officers and a suspect identified as Sean Hubert. 34 years old.

Police said the incident began Sunday after Sergeant Glenn began an investigation into a domestic dispute between a woman and Hubert.

The woman was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for injuries caused by domestic violence, so the suspect followed her to the site. The sergeant was trying to detain Hubert at the scene when the shooting took place.

Glenn had worked for the Perry County Sheriff's Office and the Tell City Police Department for nearly 20 years, Davis said according to the News.

“We lost a dear colleague, dear friend. Sergeant Glenn, she's the cornerstone of our department. We are extremely heartbroken,' Tell City Police Chief Derrick Lawalin said.

Lawalin praised the courage he said all officers displayed at the scene. He asked for the public's thoughts and prayers not only for law enforcement, but for the suspect's family as well.
